The Aristata Story

Aristata, how it came to be, how to say it, and what it means.

How it came to be

Rex Clevenger, CFP®, CEPA®

Managing Principal, Aristata Financial Senior Financial Advisor, RJFS

I started in 1991 with one of the biggest investment companies, and was with them only a few years before moving to a smaller regional firm that was more focused on putting clients’ needs first. That was a great experience until several years later in 2008 when we went through 2 buyouts in a year and a half. This caused a lot of uncertainty about the future. I knew I needed to make a move, and needed someone who shared the same vision.

I started at the end of 2003 at an office in Salina. In 2008 I transferred to the Wichita office which is where I met Rex. This is when we learned that we shared the same vision for the future and then the next year we branched out as Aristata Financial.

How to say it

You’d be surprised at how many people say “Aristata” wrong. It’s pronounced as it reads, ARISTATA. Over the years we’ve heard Aris ta ta, Arista, Asri state a, and even Aristotle. No, we’re not named after some Ancient Greek philosopher.

What it means

The name Aristata stems from the scientific name of one sub-species of bristlecone pine tree, Pinus Aristata. Bristlecone pines are known for their longevity and resilience with the oldest known Aristata tree estimated to be over 2,500 years old. (Tree image) The name “Aristata” symbolizes our commitment to standing the test of time and guiding families for generations to come. The Aristata story is not just about us, it’s about the families that we work with and helping them secure their legacy across generations.
